On June 5, 2023, the Summer
School “CSR in the Context of Relations between the European Union and
Georgia” was opened at the Sokhumi
State University within the frameworks of the Jean Monnet Module, which is
supported by the ERASMUS+ Programme (101083295-CSREU-ERASMUS-JMO-2022-HEI-TCH-RSCH). They
attended the opening of the summer school and welcomed the participants Head of the Higher Education and
Science Development Department of the Ministry of Education and Science Nino
Tsereteli, Rector of Sokhumi State University Zurab Khonelidze, Head of
Administration Nino Topuridze, President of the Academy of Sciences of
Abkhazia, Professor Zurab Lomtatidze.
The
aim of the Summer School was to raise students' awareness of Corporate Social Responsibility,
the European Union's experience in this area, and to raise awareness of
important issues such as: Georgia's
current trends and expected outcomes of EU integration, EU tools for
sustainable development; Environmental Social Responsibility in the EU, Social
Entrepreneurship and more.
Both
undergraduate and graduate students of Sokhumi State University participated in
the Summer School; It is multidisciplinary - the topic is equally important and
relevant for students of different programs. Both Georgian and foreign
professors and recognized leaders of the field were invited to participate (Programme). 150 students with high academic performance
were selected for the Summer School; During the selection, preference was given
to Internally Displaced Persons, as well as young people living in the occupied
territories of Georgia and students actively involved in various events on
behalf of Sokhumi State University. Summer School 2023, which included 34
lecture hours (including 8 hours online and 26 hours on-site), lasted for 8
days and closed on June 14, 2023.
The
Summer School was attended by 125 undergraduate students (83.3% of
participants) and 25 (16.7% of participants) of the master's program; including
90 students (60% of participants) of Business and Social sciences, 21 students
(14% of participants) - Humanities, 16 students (10.7% of participants) - Law
and Diplomacy, 8 students (5.3% of participants) - Educational Sciences, 15
students (10% of participants) - from the Faculty of Natural Sciences,
Mathematics, Technology and Pharmacy; 25.3% of the total number of participating
students (38 students) have the status of Internally Displaced Persons.
The award ceremony was attended by the Project Coordinator, Professor Larisa Takalanadze, the Head of the Office of Horizon Europe Scientific Research Programs at SSU, Professor Zviad Miminoshilli, and CSR Expert at the Georgian Center for Strategic Research and Development, Lela Khoperia. At the end of the event, the students who participated expressed their impressions and opinions.
